"Luna Sea" by Bodhi Smith

in june
the moon,
the sea,
it's lunacy
this love
floating above
connecting below
all we know
flowing
glowing
the two
so true
are one

MY THOUGHTS
the mystical pirate tower is on lookout, night after night, day after day, taking in a frontrow seat to witness the lunacy of love cast eternally between the unlikely candidates of the moon and the pacific ocean, each from a different world...the moon, la luna, and the ocean, the sea, equals "luna sea", a play on words that playfully evokes a metaphor of this crazy little thing we call love...

it's a lunacy of love when two things from different worlds are attracted to one another...the moon, la luna, and the sea create a mutual attraction...the moon's gravity pulls at the sea, giving its waters an eternal dance of and highs and lows...and in return,  the sea gives the moon a beautiful surface on which it can reflect and shine it's glowing beauty..the two would be incomplete without the other, that's the lunacy of love...

it' a lunacy of love when two souls from different worlds are attracted to one another ― bodhi, luna sea

she and i are attracted to each other through the forces of the universe, even if we do not always understand why, we just follow the signs and know the unwavering truth in our hearts...

she pulls at me with her gravity, influencing my tides of love. helping me to dance in the night, illuminating my darkness with her light...i, in turn, enhance her beauty and give her true meaning, reflecting her essence and loveliness for all to be able to see how beautiful she is, how enlightening she can be, how wonderful her love is when it glows upon you...

we're opposites in so many ways, but the same in so many more. our attraction is undeniable, our connection is a certainty that comes but once in a lifetime. add it all up and it seems like pure lunacy, but that's this crazy little thing called love...

my god, if i could make love to the moon right now, right here on this beach, i surely would ― bodhi, luna sea

now some music that fits right in there with the message of my impression and blog today...it's and oldie from over 43 years ago released in 1980 when i was but just a brand new teenager--just a young boy looking up to the moon, the stars, the heavens, wondering when her love would finally find its way into my heart...knowing me, you can understand how this tune adds so much to the perfect deeper meaning to compliment my impression and blog today... "crazy little thing called love" by queen.

this thing called love, i just can't handle it. this thing called love, i must get around to it. i ain't ready for a crazy little thing called love...this thing called love, it cries like a baby, in a cradle all night. it swings, it jives, and shakes all over like a jellyfish. i kinda like it, this crazy little thing called love...there goes my baby. she knows how to rock and roll. she drives me crazy. she gives me hot and cold fever. she leaves me in a cool, cool sweat. i gotta be cool, relax. get hip and get on my tracks, take a back seat, hitchhike. and take a long ride on my motorbike, until i'm ready. crazy little thing called love. i gotta be cool, relax. get hip and get on my tracks. take a back seat, hitchhike. and take a long ride on my motorbike, until i'm ready (ready freddie), crazy little thing called love. this thing called love, i just can't handle it. this thing called love, i must get around to it. i ain't ready, crazy little thing called love. crazy little thing called love (yeah, yeah), crazy little thing called love (yeah, yeah) ― queen, crazy little thing called love.

HISTORY OF THE PIRATE TOWER
this enigmatic seaside tower located on victoria beach in the seaside community of laguna beach, california, looks like something out of a storybook, and given that it's lovingly known by locals as the "pirate tower," it would seem to live up to the mystique. however, in reality, it was just a rich eccentric’s private staircase...

the lonely spire that's built into the rocky beach cliff face actually belongs to the estate that sits atop of the seacliff on victoria drive. however. the pirate tower's origins aren't particularly mysterious...reaching from the cliffside where the house sits down to the edge of the water, the 60-foot pirate tower was built in 1926 as an enclosed private staircase down to the beach below for the dream home built by senator william e. brown, from los angeles (who moved to california in 1882 and was also an avid and acclaimed painter)...

in the early 1940s, senator brown sold his home to a retired naval captain, harold kendrick. kendrick was a lifelong pirate aficionado and found himself attracted to the home because of the odd, slightly askew tower. records recall mr. kendrick as "eclectic and fascinating as the buildings themselves."

it seems to have been this second owner of the estate who earned the tower its swashbuckling nickname. as the story goes, he would dress up like a pirate and invite local kids over for games and stories of the sea. he'd regularly hide coins and candy in the nooks and crannies between the rocks of the tower, so that the local children could go hunting for the buried treasure. it's also said that they would play games where the winner could earn a chance to grab "cold cash," a bowl full of coins he kept in the fridge―and according to the laguna beach historic register "finders were keepers."

the pirate tower with the mansion above has changed hands a number of times over the years (at one point belonging to bette midler). but regardless of who owns the property, the pirate tower remains a fixture for all romantics alike to visit in wonder and marvel at its meaning. and even though the pirate tower is permanently locked these days with it's staircase from the cliff to the beach deemed unsafe, any adventurous soul can still find their way to the base of the tower at low tide, and dream of a swashbuckling history that might have been...

come dance with me, in the waves on the beach under the cliffs above, alone us two. we'll be in the spotlight of the moon composing her silent song, to the rhyhm of our shadows, dancing through the silvery glow across the ripples of the sands of time" ― bodhi, moondance

now some more perfect music to add extra meaning to my impression and blog today...this is a cover of a classical song by frank sinatra, but it's sung so eloquently different than the original, so much more feminine, so beautiful, so much so that i prefer it immensely to the original... "fly me to the moon" by sia (count basie and frank sinatra cover).

and here is also the original version by the late and great frank sinatra..."fly me to the moon" by frank sinatra cover.

fly me to the moon, let me play among the stars. and let me see what spring is like on jupiter and mars. in other words, hold my hand. in other words baby, kiss me. fill my heart with song and let me sing forever more. you are all i long for, all i worship and adore. in other words, please be true. in other words, i love you...fill my heart with song, let me sing forever more. you are all i long for, all i worship and adore. in other words, please be true. in other words, in other words, i love you

A COUPLE MORE QUOTES
meditate. live purely. be quiet. do your work with mastery. like the moon, come out from behind the clouds! shine

a storm howls in my soul. a wild torrent of madness...feral, dark and raw, echoing my longing across the sea swept shores of time. the ocean bears witness to the spell that forms upon my lips. a ritual woven of hope and aching desire whispered to the waves of the millenia caressing the beach, witnessed by a blanket of starlight...there i stand in the darkness, digging my toes deep into the sands below. anchored in the solace of the earth, awaiting the rebirth that comes within the illumination of the moon...i am the altar upon which the winds of change do blow. here i wait in silent worship, surrendering at the edge of the unknown, opening to all that lies beyond...at long last she rises. a jewel shining on the horizon, calling to the depths of my spirit. a feast of night-song to sooth away the noise, her great strength granted to my outstretched fingertips...here my spirit is born. here in this moonlight. here my eyes finally see. here where all things are eternally free

but how can you love a person who is not whole? because you, like the moon, are not only beautiful when full. in all of your phases and fractions and ivory-white pieces, i love you ― beau taplin, worlds of you

and you are my moon because you shine brighter than any other star in my universe and i'm your darkness. without me, you cannot see the depth of your light and with me, you can set the night a glow. so we need one another—the dark and the light. your fear. my courage. connected, but separated. different, but the same. a synergy that makes no sense, but every bit of sense. we're neither a beginning, nor an end. we're somewhere in between our madness at sunset and the reality we awaken to with each sunrise. we're the ghosts of timing and fate. we're neither fantasy, nor reality--we are a purpose somewhere in between

and hand in hand, on the edge of the sand, they danced by the light of the moon

stop hiding in the darkness,
step out into the light.
the sky is filled with all these stars,
so come and kiss the night.

infinity is waiting,
calling you by name.
the world is yours for the taking,
so take it just the same.

shock and awe, surprise them,
those who think you're weak.
look to the sky and chase them,
those answers that you seek.

because it's there you'll find me,
talking to the moon.
telling her my secrets,
asking about you.

the stars will light the sky for us,
they'll illuminate the way.
they show you how to find me,
they'll make you want to stay

george: what is it you want, mary? what do you want? you want the moon? just say the word and i'll throw a lasso around it and pull it down. hey, that's a pretty good idea. i'll give you the moon, mary....mary: i'll take it. then what?....george: well, then you could swallow it, and it'd all dissolve, see? and the moonbeams would shoot out of your fingers and your toes, and the ends of your hair... ― george bailey, it's a wonderful life

by the light of the silvery moon i want to spoon. to my honey i'll croon love's tune. honey moon, keep a-shinin' in june. your silvery beams will bring love's dreams, we'll be cuddlin' soon by the silvery moon ― doris day, by the light of the silvery moon

be the rising moon in my dark nights...i am thirsty for your light ― jalaluddin rumi, poems of ecstasy and longing

if you want the moon, do not hide from the night. if you want love, do not hide from her ― jalaluddin rumi, the essential rumi

i am your moon and your moonlight too. i have come all this way, eager for you, without shoes or shawl. i want you to smile, to giggle. i want to love you, to nourish you ― jalaluddin rumi, bridge to the soul

each night the moon kisses secretly the lover who counts the stars ― jalaluddin rumi, bridge to the soul

SPECIFICS ABOUT THIS PHOTO
it's a lunacy of love when two things from different worlds are attracted to one another...the moon, la luna, and the sea create a mutual attraction. the two would be incomplete without the other, that's the lunacy of love...― bodhi, luna sea

captured just recently on june 19, 2023, this image is composed of two separate exposures taken about 45mins apart on victoria beach in the city of laguna beach, ca...with the long exposure  of the pirate tower and the ocean (f/11@33mm for 111 secs, iso-64) taken at sunset at 8:05pm pst, and the exposure of the crescent moon and stars (f/2.8@111mm for 1.3 secs, iso-4000) taken during blue hour about 45 mins after the sun fell below the horizon at 8:50pm pst...the two photos were then merged together into one picture using layers in adobe photoshop cc...

in my photography, i always use filters to create longer exposure effects, saturate colors naturally, and balance the light in my composition in-camera...i often use as many as four filters at time, and i always use at least one filter in my completed impressions...

to get the effects and balance i was looking for in the pirate tower exposure of this composition  (f/11@33mm for 111 secs, iso-64), i used two progreyusa filters. along with the progrey g-120z antarctic magnetic holder. to secure these filters to my nikon d850 with a nikon nikkor 24mm prime f/1.4 lens. ...

first, a 3.0 nd progrey antarctica filter. to bring the light in the image down 10 stops and permit for the long 111 second exposure which creates the dreamy smoothness of the ocean and waves, and the misty look of the beach, along with naturally saturating all the purple, green, and blue colors in the image...

combined with the second filter, a 0.9 gnd progrey aurora filter. to help balance in-camera overall the image the way i envisioned it...in this case, to stop down the much brighter light to the left of the image, the post-sunset light, an extra three stops and help permit details in the shadows of the tower and cliffside to come out better in the exposure...

for the separate exposures of the crescent moon and stars (f/11@33mm for 111 secs, iso-64), no filters were necessary, so none were used...

i wish to openly thank my sponsors who have always supported me through both the good and bad times...for truly this long exposure impression would not be possible without the use of my induro phq3 series 5-way panhead with an induro (now benro) stealth carbon fiber tripod. in combination with the progreyusa filters. which i use with every photo i take...

contemplate without thinking. be certain only in your uncertainty, content to be completely incomplete. stop the rush. slow down time. breathe and notice. slow down everything. let it all be. shut off the noise. hush. relax. seize this higher moment. reconnect. feel and sense what surrounds you. listen to all the colours of light whisper as they envelope you. see the melody and harmony that float about unnoticed. taste the solitude of all this wonderment. smell the beautiful silence. now discover your peaceful serenity. then, reach out and touch your faith with all your senses. this is my world. awaken! ― bodhi, my world

you were blessed with 84,600 seconds today, have you used one of them to say thank you? ― bodhi, blessed

leave you today wishing that bright joy
and spiritual peace fill your life...
imploring you to make every moment count,
no matter what, always and forever,
for that is the only thing that truly matters...

and above all else,
i hope this message and impression find you well.

namaste,
bodhi
