"Fall In Love" by Bodhi Smith

"fall in love" is re-release of beautiful autumn image of mine (originally from over six years ago in october 2016) with a brand new updated blog...

"if i were the trees, i would have my leaves transform to yellow and let them light up your sky with golden shade at sunset, and then they would circle about your head as they float down, falling in piles at your feet, so that you might know this wonder of falling in love" ― bodhi, fall in love

"to fall in love, or not fall in love, now that is the question..." ― bodhi, fall in love

"autumn leaves don’t fall, they fly. they take their time and wander on this, their only chance to soar. reflecting sunlight, they swirl and sail and flutter on the wind drafts" ― delia owens, where the crawdads sing

"you deserve to fall in love with someone who embraces the truth of your soul" ― c. ara campbell

"i don't know why i came here tonight. i don't know how this all got started...i'm so tired of not being right--of being one of the broken-hearted. i don't even know your name. but, darling, just the same...whoever you are, i'm falling in love again...falling in love again..." ― michael stanley band, falling in love again

"the funny little monkeys in the zoo will do it. the stupid does it, the foolish do it. only the unlucky of us get to do it. let's fall in love. let's fall in love" ― mother mother, let's fall in love

"first best is falling in love. second best is being in love. least best is falling out of love. but any of it is better than never having been in love" ― maya angelou

"i want…a steady hand. a kind soul. i want to fall asleep, and wake, knowing my heart is safe. i want to love, and be loved" ― shana abe

"those small, human imperfections that separate us from the gods, are the very things about you that I will always fall for the hardest" ― beau taplin

"falling in love isn’t a process.
you can’t plan for it in advance
or anticipate its arrival.
love strikes in single moments.
anywhere, anytime.
one day you catch a glimpse of them
gardening in the sun
or singing tunelessly in a shower
and you think to yourself,
oh, i could spend all my life with you"

"we are born in one day. we die in one day. we can change in one day. and we can fall in love in one day. anything can happen in just one day" ― gayle forman, just one day

"always i hope that we shine like the star and be forever floating above...i know a falling star can't fall forever, but let's never stop falling in love. no, let's never stop falling in love" ― pink martini, let's never stop falling in love

"let's fall in love for the night and forget in the morning. play me a song that you like, you can bet i'll know every line...but... i know better, i know better. i know better than to ever call you mine" finneas, let's fall in love for the night

"this is to fall in love: to fly toward a secret sky, to cause a hundred veils to fall each moment. first to let go of life. finally, to take a step without feet" ― jalaluddin rumi, the essential rumi

"like a leaf, i
dream of
the day i
fall again,
letting go of
my branch in
the fall. falling
down, and down.
falling, floating,
dancing on
air, until i
land softly on
a colorful bed of
love, enjoying where i
find myself, surrounded by
everything i
love, falling to
fall in
love all over
again"

here's a favorite tune of mine about falling in love...it's performed from one of my all-time favorite rock stars (the late michael stanley), and unless you spent time in northeast ohio or at the ohio state university, you have probably never heard of this artist or we lucky to have caught him in concert with his band before he left us all too soon, this is one of my all-time favorite songs by any artist, and i cannot help but sing the words out loud every time i hear it ... "falling in love again" by michael stanley band.  ... (just click on any of the words in the powder blue links to listen to the tune and watch the video) ...

"i don't know why i came here tonight. i don't know how this all got started...i'm so tired of not being right--of being one of the broken-hearted. i don't even know your name. but, darling, just the same...whoever you are, i'm falling in love again...falling in love again. whoever you are, i'm falling in love again...falling in love again...killing time with a drink or two, or maybe some conversation. i had nothing really better to do, now i'm looking for explanations. i'm so tired of love's sweet lies, but they're not in your eyes...you know, my heart's been hiding...but you walked in and took it away. now there's something that i gotta say, darling... whoever you are, i'm falling in love again...falling in love again. whoever you are, i'm falling in love again...falling in love again...i don't know why i came here tonight, i don't know how this all got started..." ― michael stanley band, falling in love again

"why is it that the colors of the trees in fall seem so beautiful and make us feel so good? sometimes there is no answer, it just is..." ― bodhi, falling in love
----------------------

MEANING
"i love to love love" ― bodhi, fall in love

here in the northern hemisphere today, is another beautiful day of autumn as we near closer and closer to winter next month...but embrace the journey of changes that lay in front of you...i love trees, i love to hope, i love color, i love magic, i love beauty, i love romance, i love hidden meaning...with the trees and leaves pictured here on this glorious day of fall, this image has all of that and more...i hope you fall in love too...

i'm truly definitely a hopeless romantic...and like a leaf, i dream of the day i fall again, letting go of my branch in the fall. falling down, and down. falling, floating, dancing on air, until i land softly on a colorful bed of love, enjoying where i find myself, surrounded by everything i love, falling to fall in love all over again...

but to fall in love, or not fall in love, now that is the question...

so many opposites, it's pain vs pleasure. independence vs sharing. self-reliance vs compromise. loneliness vs companionship. peace vs conflict. certainty vs uncertainty. one vs two...

maybe give loving someone deeply a chance again and find that special one person to share my life with and have no more lonely nights and mornings...or maybe instead pull in the status quo and just forgo romantic love, to live carefree alone, responsible to no one but myself, waking up with a smile and only my doggie beside me...

lately i've been siding with the latter, not been even trying to meet anyone new...but i know falling in love is like the lottery--you cannot win unless you buy a ticket...

"i know falling in love is like the lottery--you cannot win unless you buy a ticket" ― bodhi, fall in love

this song from a current favorite alternative band of mine is from their earlier days, a little over 10 years ago (2012--my god where has the time gone!), and it has pretty much the same name as the title of my image here...it's by a really superb indie rock band from british columbia, canada. and it has some of my all time favorite lyrics in any tune, i especially love the line, "even the funny little monkeys in the zoo will do it" "let's fall in love" by mother mother  ...(just click on any of the words in the blue links to listen to the musical selection)....

"there's a game in the world, a little bit of cat and mouse with the boys and the girls. and if i had to ante up, i'd bet on the birds, 'cause they don't have to get caught up with the boys and the girls and a little game of cat and mouse...mommy did it, daddy did it, the funny little monkeys in the zoo will do it. the stupid does it, the ugly do it. only the unlucky of us get to do it. let's fall in love (let's fall in love)...there's a game in the world, a little bit of cat and mouse with the boys and the girls, and if I had to ante up, i'd bet on the birds, 'cause they don't have to walk around with the boys and the girls and a little bit of cat and mouse...mommy did it, daddy did it. even though i bet they wish they really didn't. mary did it, joey did it. even little baby, baby jesus did it. yuppies do it, junkies do it. the funny little monkeys in the zoo will do it. the stupid does it, the foolish do it. only the unlucky of us get to do it. let's fall in love. let's fall in love. haah-haah-haah-haah. haah-haah-haah-haah. haah-haah-haah-haah. mommy did it, daddy did it. the funny little monkeys in the zoo will do it. the stupid does it, the ugly do it. only the unlucky of us get to do it" ― mother mother, let's fall in love

"as the leaves in the fall let go of their resistance to the changing seasons, to their branches, to their pasts and fly into the fall air, so do we all in the autumn and this one is especially so with a vibrant changing tapestry during this time which has the power to bring about an entirely new landscape into our lives....the energy of the autumn mirrors this inward journey as we shift our attention from the external world and begin to make our descent into the darkness once more. this is not a time to mourn the end of summer, but to embrace the changing of the tides; the death and rebirth in the seasons, and of the self in a colorful and vibrant way. autumn leaves tumble to the earth below and show no fear in the dance from branch to ground. they know the time has come, they feel it deep within; the time to evolve with the changing season is here. in the coming twilight, we open to the transformation that flows and surrender to this time of celebrating what was, grieving what has ended and opening to all that has yet to be. So they let go of the branch and fly into the unknown embracing the icy winds and uncertain horizons. the time to surrender to the fall has come once more. i wish you much love and light upon your colorful journey" ― c. ara campbell

"tune out the noise inside your head, tune in the tune of the forest...you will be surrounded by a colorful melody of all the trees, the orchestra of the forest. you will fall in love with the music of the fall hues" ― bodhi, concerto in orange

STORY BEHIND THIS IMPRESSION
"just as a leaf know it is time, in the autumn, it embraces change, as it fearlessly lets go of the safety of the tree, falls and dances to where it needs to be...such a beautiful metaphor for all of us... just let go, dance, and fall in love with life's changes" ― bodhi, the middle

today we find ourselves about 2/3 of the way through autumn 2022, so i've decided to re-release another of my favorite photos of colorful trees in the fall...i love this image's beautiful progressive rhythm accompanied by its song submerged in the colors of fall...and i also i love the tunnel effect here with a pathway to the door of light, a leading line to take you into the image which is reminiscent of many of my pier images, only this time it is with trees...

what you see pictured here is the old boardman tree farm in northeast oregon on an overcast, calm, and windless morning...the type of trees that were grown here were pacific albus, a hybrid of 4 or 5 different poplar trees...boardman, oregon is about 2.5 hours east of portland on interstate 84 near the junction with interstate 82. it's a great drive that mostly follows the south bank of the columbia river, and it's beautiful any time of the year...

however, i must report that it's sad and discouraging to know this beauty has totally vanished, to where only pictures like this will remain of what once was...because now unfortunately, the massive old boardman tree farm was sold to mega-dairy farm corporations a few years ago. the trees have now been clear cut to accommodate for the giant dairy pastures that supply the tillamook dairy processing plant in boardman with all the supplies of milk it needs to make its products...all the beautiful trees are just a memory, now there's no trees left, all cut down, all permanently gone...

six years ago when i took this picture, i was able to walk on the property (with permission from the owners)...the boardman tree farm was massive at about 40 square miles (25,000 acres). numerous public paved and dirt roads cut across the groves, so you could explore and access much of the expanse fairly easily. many breathtaking images could be found from the road's edge with no need to walk on the property...but now, it's all gone. everything has disappeared. there's no trees left, just massive dairy farms with adjacent farmland providing the feed for all the head of cows so we can have more cheese and yogurt on our grocery shelves...sheeez...

here is another tune...this song is one of the all-time classics about falling in love from "the king" himself... "can't help falling in love" by elvis presley  ...(just click on any of the words in the blue links to listen to the musical selection)....this is a wonderful reggae cover of the elvis song "can't help falling in love" by ub40 (elvis presley cover)

"wise men say, only fools rush in. but i can't help, falling in love with you...shall i stay? would it be a sin, if i can't help falling in love with you?...like a river flows surely to the sea, darling, so it goes, some things are meant to be...take my hand. take my whole life, too. for i can't help falling in love with you...like a river flows surely to the sea, darling, so it goes, some things are meant to be...take my hand. take my whole life, too. for i can't help falling in love with you. for i can't help falling in love with you" ― elvis presley, can't help falling in love

"shhhh...can you hear it? its peace? the silence of the light, and if you truly listen, it will surely guide you to where you need to be" ― bodhi, falling in love

MORE BODHI QUOTES
and now here are a few more quotes from bodhi from past blogs to help add to the deeper meaning of this blog today...

"i don't need a scientific study to prove being in nature is great therapy, i am positive it's good for me on many different levels...i know it as fact, empirically through my first hand experience. when i'm out in nature, everything is better...my mood, my heart-rate, my stress levels, my inner serenity. i feel more love and connection, direction and purpose. plus, later at night after being out in nature, i sleep better, dream more vividly and peacefully...and when i can revisit old faithful scenes where beautiful memories abound such as this, it's nothing short of pure comfort for me" ― bodhi, comfort

"for me, comfort is found somewhere out in nature, behind the lens of a camera...each time the shutter opens and closes, i am breathing in, and breathing out" ― bodhinku, my therapy

"mother nature mixes and blends her five musical notes with her five primary hues to bring music to our eyes and color to our ears" ― bodhi, music of color

"in this beautiful forest, mother nature is creating a concerto, with the color of orange doing a solo. it's cheerful and vibrant music she's creating to fill us with joy and happiness..." ― bodhi, an autumnal concerto

"i love to love love" ― bodhi, love

"love is the higher power in this universe" ― bodhi, faith

MORE MUSIC FOR EXTRA MEANING
here's a few more profoundly poignant tunes...beginning with this great alternative song by billie eilish's older brother "let's fall in love for the night" by finneas  ... (just click on any of the words in the powder blue links to listen to the tune and watch the video)...

"let's fall in love for the night and forget in the morning. play me a song that you like, you can bet i'll know every line. i'm the boy that your boy hoped that you would avoid. don't waste your eyes on jealous guys, fuck that noise. i know better than to call you mine...you need a pick me up? i'll be there in twenty five. i like to push my luck, so take my hand, let's take a drive. i've been livin' in the future hoping i might see you sooner. i want you, riding shotgun. i knew when i got one right...let's fall in love for the night and forget in the morning. play me a song that you like, you can bet i'll know every line. i'm the boy that your boy hoped that you would avoid. don't waste your eyes on jealous guys, fuck that noise. i know better than to call you mine...i love it when you talk that nerdy shit. we're in our twenties talking thirties shit. we're making money but we're saving it. because talking shit is cheap and we talk a lot of it. you won't stay with me, i know. but you can have your way with me until you go. and before your kisses turn into bruises, i'm a warning...let's fall in love for the night and forget in the morning. play me a song that you like, you can bet i'll know every line. because i'm the boy that your boy hoped that you would avoid. don't waste your eyes on jealous guys, fuck that noise. i know better, i know better. i know better than to ever call you mine" ― finneas, let's fall in love for the night

"i wish a falling star could fall forever, and sparkle through the clouds and stormy weather. and in the darkness of the night, the star would shine a glimmering light, and hover above our love. please, hold me close and whisper that you love me, and promise that your dreams are only of me. when you are near, everything's clear: earth is a beautiful heaven...always i hope that we follow the star and be forever floating above. i know a falling star can't fall forever, but let's never stop falling in love. when you are near, everything's clear: earth is a beautiful heaven. always i hope that we shine like the star and be forever floating above...i know a falling star can't fall forever, but let's never stop falling in love. no, let's never stop falling in love" ― pink martini, let's never stop falling in love

"you be my alice, and i'll be your mad hatter. we can live in a palace, nothing too amateur. are you fa-fa-fallin' for me? show me your talents, i'll throw them back at ya. no matter what happens, i'll keep up the temperature. are you fa-fa-fallin' for me? yes or no? let's go! you're coming with me. let's take a dive. meet at the rainbow 9:45. wear something trashy, that's what i like. we're on the rooftop, jumpin' off the sides. are you fa-fa-fallin' (are you?), fallin' with me? the evil is landing through the roof on your tablе top, let's eat up some damagе. there goes my trail of thought. are you fa-fa-fallin' with me? (are you fallin' with me, babe?) yes or no? ;et's go! you're coming with me. let's take a dive, meet at the rainbow 9:45. wear something trashy, that's what i like. we're on the rooftop jumpin' off the sides. are you fa-fa-fallin' for me?...are you coming with me? let's take a dive, meet at the rainbow 9:45 (not a second later). wear something trashy, that's what i like (that's what i like). we're on the rooftop jumpin' off the sides (jumpin' off the sides). are you fa-fa-fallin', fallin for me? fallin' with me" ― the struts, fallin' with me

"i keep on fallin' in and out of love with you. sometimes i love ya. sometimes you make me blue. sometimes Ii feel good, at times i feel used. lovin' you darlin' makes me so confused. i keep on fallin' in and out of love with you. i never loved someone the way that i love you. oh, oh, i never felt this way. how do you give me so much pleasure and cause me so much pain? just when i think i've taken more than would a fool, istart fallin' back in love with you. i keep on fallin' in and out of love with you. i never (uh huh) loved someone the way that i love you (uh, uh). oh, baby i-i-i'm fallin', i-i-i'm fallin' fall, fall, fall, fall...i keep on fallin' in and out of love with you. i never loved someone the way that i love you. i'm fallin' in and out of love with you. i never (no) loved someone (no, no) the way that i love you. i'm fallin' in and out. of love with you i never loved someone the way that i love you..."  alicia keys, fallin

"i don't know you, but i want you. all the more for that. words fall through me and always fool me. and i can't react. and games that never amount to more than they're meant will play themselves out. take this sinking boat and point it home, we've still got time. raise your hopeful voice, you had the choice. you've made it now...falling slowly, eyes that know me and i can't go back. and moods that take me and erase me, and i'm painted black. you have suffered enough and warred with yourself. it's time that you won...take this sinking boat and point it home, we've still got time. raise your hopeful voice, you had the choice. you've made it now...take this sinking boat and point it home, we've still got time. raise your hopeful voice, you had the choice. you've made it now, falling slowly, sing your melody, i'll sing it loud" ― glen hansard & marketa irglova, falling slowly

MORE QUOTES FOR EXTRA MEANING
"you deserve to fall in love with someone who embraces the truth of your soul" ― c. ara campbell

"those small, human imperfections that separate us from the gods, are the very things about you that I will always fall for the hardest" ― beau taplin

"there are no half measures in love, only all or nothing, and if it doesn’t make you tremble or go mad at the very thought of its absence, it is not love" ― beau taplin

"bewilder me. i want to be kissed clueless. i want my attention to be gripped for more than a few moments. i want to be stunned and surprised and compelled to second guess every damn thing i think i know about the universe." ― beau taplin

"i find the single most remarkable thing about love is the way it is doomed to pain and loss from its onset. whether it is the spouse that outlives their lover, or all the longing when being apart, or losing your lover to another...there is no escaping this most solemn of inevitability. that two people would commit themselves to all of this hurt and heartache in spite of this, all in the name of experiencing genuine connection for even a moment, is all the proof i need that madness of love exists, and it is awfully beautiful." ― beau taplin

“true love does not award itself to the cowardly or indecisive. love is beholden only to the brave and the bold. those who come willing to break bone and bleed for it, to tirelessly climb higher and higher, to go on fighting without reason or hope” ― beau taplin

“i swear i’m through playing it safe. when falling in love, there’s no room for caution or meticulous planning. true love is total mindless disregard. handing over your heart and never looking back. i am through allowing my head to make decisions for me that only my wild, irrational heart can understand" ― beau taplin (modified by bodhi)

"i love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. i love you simply, without problems or pride: i love you in this way because i do not know any other way of loving but this, in which there is no i or you, so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand, so intimate that when i fall asleep, your eyes close" ― pablo neruda , 100 love sonnets

"when we meet someone and fall in love, we have a sense that the whole universe is on our side. and yet if something goes wrong, there is nothing left! how is it possible for the beauty that was there only minutes before to vanish so quickly? life moves very fast. it rushes from heaven to hell in a matter of seconds" ― paulo coelho, eleven minutes

"love, it was the pure language of the world. it required no explanation, just as the universe needs none as it travels through endless time. what the boy felt at that moment was that he was in the presence of the only woman in his life, and that, with no need for words, she recognized the same thing. he was more certain of it than of anything in the world. he had been told by his parents and grandparents that he must fall in love and really know a person before becoming committed. but maybe people who felt that way had never learned the universal language. because, when you know that language, it's easy to understand that someone in the world awaits you, whether it's in the middle of the desert or in some great city. and when two such people encounter each other, and their eyes meet, the past and the future become unimportant. there is only that moment, and the incredible certainty that everything under the sun has been written by one hand only. it is the hand that evokes love, and creates a twin soul for every person in the world. without such love, one's dreams would have no meaning" ― paulo coelho, the alchemist

"he stared at her, knowing with certainty that he was falling in love. he pulled her close and kissed her beneath a blanket of stars, wondering how on earth he'd been lucky enough to find her" ― nicholas sparks, the last song

"i want to be the friend you fall hopelessly in love with. the one you take into your arms and into your bed and into the private world you keep trapped in your head. I want to be that kind of friend. the one who will memorize the things you say as well as the shape of your lips when you say them. i want to know every curve, every freckle, every shiver of your body...i want to know where to touch you, i want to know how to touch you. i want to know convince you to design a smile just for me. yes, i do want to be your friend. i want to be your best friend in the entire world in every way possible" ― tahereh mafi, unravel me

"the moment you fall in love feels like it has centuries behind it, generations - all of them rearranging themselves so this precise, remarkable intersection could happen. in your heart, in your bones, no matter how silly you know it is, you feel that everything has been leading to this, all the secret arrows were pointing here, the universe and time itself crafted this long ago, and you are just now realizing it, you are just now arriving at the place you were always meant to be" ― david levithan, every day

ABOUT THIS IMPRESSION
"like a leaf, i dream of the day i fall again, letting go of my branch in the fall. falling down, and down. falling, floating, dancing on air, until i land softly on a colorful bed of love, enjoying where i find myself, surrounded by everything i love, falling to fall in love all over again" ― bodhi, music of color

this impression was captured on the old boardman tree farm in northeastern oregon six autumns ago on a calm and totally windless morning right at sunrise 7:01am on october 3rd, 2016...this composition is comprised of one single long exposure of the rows of trees as the morning sun is rising (f/11@33mm for 111 secs, iso-64)...

in my photography, i always use filters to create longer exposure effects, saturate colors naturally, and balance the light in my composition in-camera...i often use as many as four filters at time, and i always use at least one filter in my completed impressions...

to get the effects and balance i was looking for in this composition (f/11@33mm for 111 secs, iso-64), i used three progreyusa filters along with the progrey g-120z antarctic magnetic holder to secure these filters to my nikon d810 with a nikon nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8 lens ...

first, a 3.0nd progrey antarctic filter to bring the light in the image down 10 stops and permit for the long 111 second exposure which naturally saturates all the red, orange, and yellow colors in the image (i would not have been able to use this long exposure and filter if the wind was blowing, because the leaves in the image would be blurred severely)...

combined with two progreyusa filters additionally...a 0.6 gnd progrey aurora filter and an inverted 0.3 gnd progrey aurora filter to help balance in-camera overall the image the way i envisioned it...in this case, to stop down the much brighter light in the tops of the trees as the sun way trying to shine through, an extra three stops and help permit details in the shadows of trees deeper in the composition, and to darken to lower foreground a bit...

wish to openly thank my sponsors who have always supported me through both the good and bad times...for truly this long exposure impression would not be possible without the use of my induro phq3 series 5-way panhead with an induro (now benro) stealth carbon fiber tripod in combination with the progreyusa filters which i use with every photo i take...

"you were blessed with 84,600 seconds today, have you used one of them to say thank you?" ― bodhi, blessed

"if nothing else...if i open my eyes, if i hope, if i cry, if i think, if i sigh, if i giggle, if i dance, if i love, if i breathe, then i have lived a full days worth of life...nothing is wasted, nothing" ― bodhi, if

"i do not want you to just be into my photography, instead, i'd much rather you take a journey into my pictures, and feel the impression i have created, feel it with all your senses" ― bodhi, into my photo

"my photography is my way of keeping a diary " ― bodhi, my diary

"contemplate without thinking. be certain only in your uncertainty, content to be completely incomplete. stop the rush. slow down time. breathe and notice. slow down everything. let it all be. shut off the noise. hush. relax. seize this higher moment. reconnect. feel and sense what surrounds you. listen to all the colours of light whisper as they envelope you. see the melody and harmony that float about unnoticed. taste the solitude of all this wonderment. smell the beautiful silence. now discover your peaceful serenity. then, reach out and touch your faith with all your senses. this is my world. awaken!" ― bodhi, my world

leave you today wishing that bright joy
and spiritual peace fill your life...
imploring you to make every moment count,
no matter what, always and forever,
for that is the only thing that truly matters...

and above all else,
i hope this message and impression find you well.

namaste,
bodhi
