"Drops of Jupiter" by Bodhi Smith

everything's glowing,
everything's flowing.
everything's moving,
everything's grooving.
it's one giant dance of the cosmos,
and here anything goes.
mother earth's dropping a line,
doing the tango with father time.
falling drops of jupiter in the air,
a shooting star becomes a glaring flare.
falling asleep into the twilight,
the milky way prepares its dream for the night.
pele's well falling, then rising in a building crescendo,
as the Pacific waters in and out flow,
pulsing in and out, it's ready to burst and blow
everything's dancing, falling in a harmony of love
all to the rhythm of the universe above.
such a heavenly scene to catch and behold!
seeing pure beauty in motion will never get old
Under the Milky Way tonight, all my senses are in delight.  In Hawaii, my feet in the warm flowing sea, I'm feeling wild and free. Drops of Jupiter in the air, the soft ocean breeze in my hair, smile on my face, this is truly my happy place! ― Bodhi, Drops of Jupiter
There are places that I capture with my camera, and then there are places that capture me. Here you see a place that did both the former and the latter. Just an amazing thing to see with my own eyes, and get to experience with all my senses--touch, taste, sound, smell...
Everything is glowing, everything is flowing. Everything is moving, everything is grooving. It's one giant dance of the cosmos, and here anything goes. Mother Earth is dropping a line, doing the Tango with Father Time. Falling "Drops of Jupiter" in the air, and a shooting star becoming a glaring flare. Falling asleep into the twilight, the Milky Way prepares its dreams for the night. Pele's Sea Well falling, then rising in a building crescendo, as the warm Pacific waters relentlessly flow, pulsing in and out, it's ready to burst and blow. Everything's dancing, falling in a harmony of love, all to the rhythm of the Universe above. Such a heavenly scene to catch and behold! Seeing pure beauty in motion will never get old...
I'm most at home under dark skies, the place where my spirit shines. The beautiful place where I can dance with the Milky Way, as the planets and the stars bear witness to the real magic of the universe here on earth   ― Bodhi, Drops of Jupiter
For me, special nights like this are so much better than those days when the universe is rotating and I'm not, when life is rutted and not flowing, and I'm "off-full" and just not on my path to where I know I need to be...But on nights like this, I have nowhere to go but everywhere. My life makes sense, I feel wanted and know my purpose. The signs of the universe are all so very clear...
So, illuminated by the celestial heavens above and dancing with the warm waves hugging my waist, to the song of the Milky Way with "Drops of Jupiter" in my hair and a shooting star holding my hand, all I can do is smile. I know that I'm exactly where I need to be, knowing with definite certainty this life of mine is truly a good life...
There’s nowhere to go but everywhere, so just keep rolling under the stars. ― Jack Kerouac
The cover of My U.S. Passport Book with Jack Kerouac's quote above
I really need to be illuminated daily by the star-filled night sky. Looking up to the heavens inspires me, helping me glow from my deepest depths...Illuminating my inner shadows, those hidden dark parts of me, personal secrets that make me who I am, even if I'm not proud of them ― Bodhi, Illuminated
Now that she's back in the atmosphere with Drops of Jupiter in her hair...Did you make it to the Milky Way to see the lights all faded and that Heaven is overrated? And tell me, did you fall for a shooting star? One without a permanent scar, and did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there? ― Train, Drops of Jupiter.
The bright glowing "star" in this picture is the planet Jupiter, alongside the Milky Way and a shooting star...these elements in my photo inspired me to name the composition as  Drops of Jupiter. after the song by Train, a tune that continues to this day to inspire me profoundly...and especially so since within its lyrics are mentions of Jupiter, the Milky Way and a shooting star...
Released over 23 years ago in 2001, this song Drops of Jupiter. goes along absolutely perfectly with my impression and blog today...it's without comparison, my favourite tune by the alternative rock band Train from San Francisco...the song won the Grammy Award for best rock song in 2001 and has very dreamy poetic lyrics...it really became the band's signature song that catapulted them into the limelight of stardom...
While many assume that the lyrics to  Drops of Jupiter. are about a woman who leaves a relationship to go explore the world on her own, they are actually lyrics of grieving as Train's frontman, Pat Monahan, imagines his recently deceased mother returning to him in spirit after a journey through the afterlife.

In an interview, Monahan says that the opening lyric, “Now that she’s back in the atmosphere,” came to him in a dream. She was swimming through the planets, and that's what the whole part of having "drops of Jupiter in her hair" is from...

“The process of creation wasn’t easy,” Monahan explains. “I just couldn’t figure out what to write, but then I woke up from a dream about a year after my mother passed away with the words ‘back in the atmosphere’…It was just her way of saying what it was like – she was swimming through the planets and came to me with drops of Jupiter in her hair. because everything is what you want it to be when you're gone from this life.”

Monahan explains that his mother was the most important person in his life, and he had been struggling with accepting her loss...He began to toy with the idea that nobody ever truly leaves, and Drops of Jupiter. is the result of his imagination running wild with visions of meeting his mother again, after she spends some time swimming through the atmosphere.

In this way, the song becomes a song of self-discovery, both for his mother’s imagined journey and Monahan’s own journey through life as he works through the grief associated with losing his mother...Her spirit returns after witnessing the wonders of the heavens and the atmosphere, and offers Monahan some guidance in his own life, which mostly boils down to not being afraid to try new things and take chances, because that is the path to self-realization.

In the bridge, Monahan asks his mother to imagine what it would have been like had she not returned to him in spirit, and all the things they would have missed out on. This section of the song has a certain sadness to it, as we know that in reality his mother has passed on, and Monahan is simply finding comfort in fantasies about her presence.

However, there is a feeling of hope emitting from the whole thing, as the song suggests that the people we love are always with us, whether that is physically or spiritually.
Drops of Jupiter. is an example of how universal human experience can be; no matter how different the circumstances, it conveys them. We all experience the pain and loneliness of being separated from people we care about, whether it is a break-up or the death of a loved one. A testament to the power of music to help us cope with life’s challenges is demonstrated by Train's stirring lyrics and emotive vocals. Music is one of the most powerful tools for healing, whether it can help us cope with our darkest moments or provide comfort during times of sadness ..."Drops of Jupiter" by Train.
Now that she's back in the atmosphere
With drops of Jupiter in her hair
She acts like summer and walks like rain
Reminds me that there's a time to change, hey
Since the return of her stay on the moon
She listens like spring and she talks like June, hey
Hey, hey, yeah
But tell me, did you sail across the sun?
Did you make it to the Milky Way to see the lights all faded
And that Heaven is overrated?
And tell me, did you fall for a shooting star?
One without a permanent scar, and did you miss me
While you were looking for yourself out there?
Now that she's back from that soul vacation
Tracing her way through the constellation, hey, mmm
She checks out Mozart while she does Tae-Bo
Reminds me that there's a room to grow, hey, yeah
Now that she's back in the atmosphere
I'm afraid that she might think of me as
Plain ol' Jane told a story about a man
Who was too afraid to fly, so he never did land
But tell me, did the wind sweep you off your feet?
Did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day
And head back to the Milky Way?
And tell me, did Venus blow your mind?
Was it everything you wanted to find, and did you miss me
While you were looking for yourself out there?
Can you imagine no love, pride, deep-fried chicken
Your best friend always sticking up for you
Even when I know you're wrong?
Can you imagine no first dance, freeze-dried romance
Five hour phone conversation
The best soy latte that you ever had, and me?
But tell me, did the wind sweep you off your feet?
Did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day
And head back toward the Milky Way?
And tell me, did you sail across the sun?
Did you make it to the Milky Way to see the lights all faded
And that Heaven is overrated?
And tell me, did you fall for a shooting star?
One without a permanent scar, and then you miss me
While you were looking for yourself?
Na-na, na-na, na-na
Na-na, na-na, na-na, na, na
And did you finally get the chance
To dance along the light of day?
Na-na, na-na, na-na
Na-na, na-na, na-na, na, na
And did you fall for a shooting star?
Fall for a shooting star?
Na-na, na-na, na-na
Na-na, na-na, na-na, na, na
And are you lonely looking for yourself out there?
Here's some music which you might like to hear, "Under the Milky Way" by Sia. ...This is a beautiful song with very meaningful lyrics to my impression here, it is a softly moody song with a melody that adds a wonderful ambiance as you continue to read the rest of my blog today...It's a deliciously beautiful cover of the original 1987 version of the song, "Under the Milky Way" by The Church. ... (just click on any of words in the powder blue links to listen to the any song in this entire blog)

Sometimes when this place gets kind of empty,
The sound of their breath fades with the light.
I think about the loveless fascination
Under the Milky Way tonight.
Lower the curtain down in Memphis.
Lower the curtain down all right.
I got no time for private consultation, yeah,
Under the milky way tonight.
I wish I knew what you were looking for.
I might have known what you would find.
And there's something quite peculiar,
Something that's shimmering and white
Leads you here despite your destination
Under the Milky Way tonight.
I wish I knew what you were looking for.
I might have known what you would find...
I wish I knew what you were looking for,
I might have known what you would find
Under the Milky Way tonight,
Under the Milky Way tonight...
The Milky Way tonight...ohhh,
Under the Milky Way...
I know of a place, that's the place for me. Out in the wilderness under the beautiful canopy of the Milky Way stretching across the entire sky. Its silence speaks to me, telling me with all certainty this is my place, where I need to be. It's my favorite place, where the darkness is so dark, that the stars light up everything dark inside me and out, illuminating everything all around with their collective energies, painting a starry night into my soul" ― Bodhi, Starry Night
The Hawaiian Pacific is warm, blue, and crystal clear. Oregon's Pacific is cold, gray, and opaque. The choice is easy for me, I'll take Hawaii anyday!  ― Bodhi, Pele Honi
In hindsight, now that I've photographed both Pele's Sea Well on the Hawaiian coast, and Thor's Sea Well on the Oregon coast, I can compare the two locations...
Photo of Thor's Sea Well under the stars..."Magical Source" by Bodhi Smith
Pele's Well is so much more enjoyable to photograph. The experience is so much more pleasurable all the way around (although maybe less dramatic) than Thor's Well...
To begin with, both the air and water temperatures are 25-30F warmer in Hawaii. Even in the winter months, at Pele's Well you can stand directly in the water and get gently battered by waves and not freeze your ass off like you would at Thor's Well after getting violently thrashed by a giant wave (even in the summer)...there's just something so much more enjoyable about spending time in warm blue waters than dark cold gray waters...
Next the tides and ocean currents at Pele's Well are so much more calm and gentle and less violent than the powerful currents and riptides at Thor's Well...plus there are less "rogue" waves that come in twice as strong and twice as large as the biggest waves normally would, like you'd see at Thor's Well during high tide in the Pacific Northwest. So many times I have been swallowed up by waves many feet over my head at Thor's Well. Battered severely by it's unforgivingly harsh and cold waters.  I can relax more at Pele's Sea well and have less worry about being washed away and drowned by the power of the ocean--although I still utterly respect the Pacific Ocean at Pele's Well, knowing to never turn my back on her and expect the unexpected at any time while I'm photographing her...
Lastly, the tropical Pacific waters are cleaner and much more crystal clear than the Pacific waters of the American Northwest by Oregon. There's more of a clarity to be seen in the water as it is less stirred up with less kelp in it. And as such, the colors of blue come through more prominently, rather than the dull grey tones in the Pacific Northwest, things are just prettier and more positive...
While I kept getting an adrenaline rush with every large wave stirring and coming ashore in Hawaii, there was so much less anxiety since the energy in the waves was more calming and less stressful, both physically and mentally...
From my experiences now, I can reflect and decide without regret that I'll never go back and photograph Thor's Well. Unfortunately, I just do not need to go there and risk my life and camera gear anymore. It's just not worth it, and it's been replaced by a place so much sweeter, a place that gives me "sweet kisses" instead of punches to the face. So, I now know that my days of photographing Thor's Sea Well have come to end. However, I'll most definitely return to take pictures of Pele's Sea Well in future visits to Hawaii...
Sigh...throughout my life, the one thing most inspiring is a starry night. I've always looked up there for inspiration, and I've never been let down. Witnessing celestial bodies glowing in silent beauty as they dance with the zodiac all night long, filling the voids inside me with rapture wrapped in a sigh ― Bodhi, Starry Night
The celestial wind whispers a lonely lullaby over the ocean and through the breeze, seeming to call your name somehow into my sleeping soul. I wonder if you know that you live there, nestled in between the breaths of air and beating of my heart, where time stands still and eternity waits on the edge of the horizon. You who are the lyrics of a love song etched deep within the walls of this aching heart, singing a timeless tune written in the stars ― C. Ara Campbell, Written In The Stars
Find me under the Milky Way, soul bare and heart open. Let me swim in your spirit past the sentry of time and space that stands in the way and let me love you...pull away the unworthiness etched upon your shores by those too blind to see your value and let me breathe you into the depths of myself in appreciation of all that you are. Show me your solitude as I show you mine; all the parts that ache and yearn for more. Let me see the facets of you longing to be traced by understanding hands full of reverence. You have the taste of my destiny on your lips and an essence that has swam in my blood since time began; a compass that navigated me wordlessly like the North Star back to a safe harbor. You, the home of the soul I longed a lifetime for, the lyrics to a melody I hummed before learning all of your words...wishing only that I could give you my eyes so that you could see your own brilliant unfolding and witness your landscape that has to me become so precious. You, who comprehend the foreign language I speak that fell on deaf ears for an eternity, it’s tongues finally heard fully quenching my parched and misunderstood soil that once stood solitary and barren against the tides...Planting 1000 kisses upon your naked heart in worship and in awe of your existence in this Universe, I am replete with joy. If a million stars fell from the skies whispering their wishful promises into my open ear, not a single one would I entreat to change a single layer of you. Let us stretch our fingers towards eternity together wrapped around dreams and laughter, souls bare and hearts open ― C. Ara Campbell, Soul Bare & Heart Open
And god himself could bend the heavens and the earth, rain meteor showers, birth supernovas, spin whole galaxies into reality in the breadth of a moment, and still never come close to fathering a sight that could steal the breath from me like hers ― Beau Taplin, The Blueprint
I don't know anything with certainty, but seeing the stars makes me dream ― Vincent Van Gogh, Vincent's Letters
Be clearly aware of the stars and infinity on high. then life seems almost enchanted after all ― Vincent Van Gogh, Vincent's Letters
It often seems to me that night is still more richly coloured than the day; having hues of the most intense violets, blues and greens. If only you pay attention to it, you will see that certain stars and planets like Jupiter are lemon-yellow, others pink or a green, blue and forget-me-not brilliance ― Vincent Van Gogh, Vincent's Letters
We are travelers on a cosmic journey, stardust, swirling and dancing in the eddies and whirlpools of infinity. Life is eternal. We have stopped for a moment to encounter each other, to meet, to love, to share. This is a precious moment. It is a little parenthesis in eternity ― Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist
The night is starry and the stars are blue and shiver in the distance. The night wind revolves in the sky and sings.  ― Pablo Neruda
The night sky is the truest friend in life. When you first become acquainted, it is ever there. it gives ever peace, ever reminds you that your restlessness, your doubt, your pains are passing trivialities. The universe is, and will remain unshaken ― Fridtjof Nansen
In a universe of ambiguity, this kind of certainty comes only once, and never again, no matter how many lifetimes you live ― Robert Kincaid, The Bridges of Madison County
But I bring it up to let you know that this is the way I feel right now. Like the Milky Way and Jupiter are aligned with the earth and I’m floating ― Jennifer Nixen, All the Bright Places
There’s nothing more beautiful than the way the ocean refuses to stop kissing the shoreline, no matter how many times it’s sent away ― Sarah Kay
The starlight, I will be chasing a starlight until the end of my life...Hold you in my arms, I just wanted to hold you in my arms...My life, you electrify my life. Let's conspire to ignite all the souls that would die just to feel alive ― Matthew Bellamy (Lead Singer-Songwriter of the band Muse), Starlight.
Something that's shimmering and white leads you here despite your destination under the Milky Way tonight ― Sia, Under The Milky Way (The Church cover)
Stars burn clear all night till dawn. Do that yourself, and a well will rise in the dark with water to quench your deepest thirst ― Jalaluddin Rumi, Words of Paradise
The universe and the light of the stars come through you, into me ― Jalaluddin Rumi, Fountain of Fire
My Companions are stars. Whomsoever of them you follow, you will be rightly guided. When a man looks at a star, and finds his way by it, the star does not speak any word to that man. Yet, by merely looking at the star, the man knows the road from roadlessness and reaches his goal ― Jalaluddin Rumi, In the Arms of the Beloved

You come from beyond the stars and void of space. Transcendent, pure, of unimaginable beauty, bringing with you the essence of love ―
Jalaluddin Rumi, Hush Don't Say Anything To God
In the sea of love, I melt like salt, Faith, Doubt - they both dissolve. A star is opening in my heart, The worlds turn in it ― Jalaluddin Rumi, Poems of Ecstasy and Longing
Here in my chest a Star came out so clear it drew all Stars into it ― Jalaluddin Rumi, Words of Paradise
Illuminated by the celestial heavens above, dancing with the warm waves hugging my waist, to the song of the Milky Way with Drops of Jupiter in my hair and a shooting star holding my hand, all I can do is smile. I know I'm exactly where I need to be, knowing with definite certainty this life of mine is truly a good life  ― Bodhi, Drops of Jupiter
During high tide under the cover of the night and the celestial heavens above with a glowing Jupiter, The Milky Way, and a shooting star, this composition here before you is a photo of the colorful Pele Sea Well on the jagged lava-rock shoreline close to the Kona International Airport on the Big Island of Hawaii ...
To get the effects you see here, I needed to capture two photos taken in the same frame, all-the-while knowing later I would be merging them together into one single composition using layers in Adobe Photoshop CC...
In my photography, I always use filters to create longer exposure effects, saturate colors naturally, and balance the light in my composition in-camera...I often use as many as four filters at time, and I always use at least one filter in my completed impressions...
And to get the effects and balance I was looking for in this composition, I used two ProgreyUSA Filters. along with the ProgreyUSA G-120Z Antarctic Magnetic Holder. to secure these filters to my Nikon D850 with a Nikon Nikkor 24mm prime f/1.4 lens. ...
Camera Settings for Pele Sea Well and the Pacific Ocean:
ISO-64, 24mm at f/11 for 222 seconds...Image taken about 10 mins after sunset at 5:55pm HST on November 20, 2023 using a ProgreyUSA 0.9 GND Aurora Filter. to bring the top third of the composition down 3 stops and help darken the brighter sky, creating a better in-camera balance in the overall image with the shadows in the lava rocks and sea well, along with a ProgreyUSA 3.0ND Antarctic Magnetic Filter. to stop down the image 10 stops and permit for an ultra long 222 second exposure at f/11 which helps to create the effect of the misty blue waters, smooth waterfalls in the sea well, plus smooth out the ocean waves, and help naturally saturate all the red, green, blue (RGB) hues in the image ...
Camera Settings for night sky with Jupiter, Milky Way & Shooting Star:
ISO-1600, 24mm at f/1.4 for 13 seconds at 7:07pm HST on November 20, 2023...no filters were necessary for the exposure of the night sky, so none were used...
The two images shot in the same frame were then merged together using layers in Adobe Photoshop CC...
I wish to openly thank my sponsors who have always supported me through both the good and bad times...for truly this long exposure impression would not be possible without the use of my Induro PHQ3 Series 5-way Panhead with an Induro (now Benro) Stealth Carbon Fiber Tripod. in combination with the ProgreyUSA Filters. which I use with every photo I take...
if nothing else...if i open my eyes, if i hope, if i cry, if i think, if i sigh, if i giggle, if i dance, if i love, if i breathe, then i have lived a full days worth of life...nothing is wasted, nothing" ― bodhi, if nothing else
i do not want you to just be into my photography, instead, i'd much rather you take a journey into my pictures, and feel the impression i have created, feel it with all your senses" ― bodhi, into my photography
my photography is my way of keeping a diary ― bodhi, my diary
contemplate without thinking. be certain only in your uncertainty, content to be completely incomplete. stop the rush. slow down time. breathe and notice. slow down everything. let it all be. shut off the noise. hush. relax. seize this higher moment. reconnect. feel and sense what surrounds you. listen to all the colours of light whisper as they envelope you. see the melody and harmony that float about unnoticed. taste the solitude of all this wonderment. smell the beautiful silence. now discover your peaceful serenity. then, reach out and touch your faith with all your senses. this is my world. awaken! ― bodhi, my world
you were blessed with 84,600 seconds today, have you used one of them to say thank you? ― bodhi, blessed
I leave you today wishing that bright joy
and spiritual peace fill your life...
imploring you to make every moment count,
no matter what, always and forever,
for that is the only thing that truly matters...
And above all else,
I hope this message and impression find you well.
