Ardiendo by Bodhi Smith

"ardiendo" a new impression from bodhi smith...

"our life is a coloring book...together we color our world onto the vibrant pages with our radiant hues, saturating and warming our lives with a beauty that's so filled with colorful luminosity, just like sparkling sunbeams shining through a thousand colorful leaves ablaze on autumn trees" ― bodhinku, (h-s-l) ardiendo

“love what you have, enjoy what the world gives you. like the first day of fall: bright flame before winter's deadness; harvest; orange, gold, amber; cool nights and the smell of fire. our tree-lined streets are set ablaze, our kitchens filled with the smells of nostalgia: apples bubbling into sauce, roasting squash, cinnamon, nutmeg, cider, warmth itself. the leaves as they spark into wild color just before they die are the world's oldest performance art, and everything we see is celebrating one last violently hued hurrah before the black and white silence of winter" ― shauna niequist, bittersweet: thoughts on change, grace, and learning

“don’t ask what love can make or do! look at the colors of the world.” ― jalaluddin rumi

“the world is full of magic and colorful things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.” ― w.b. yeats

 "together
our colors sing,
ablaze with a
melody of passion hues
drenched with reds, and
yellows, and oranges,
mellowed by greens, and
cooling blues...
floating silently upon
the morning breeze,
we're autumn's leaves
falling from trees,
landing in the river
floating quietly away, upon
still waters,
wrapped around
colorful sighs,
a simple, single, infinite
moment of living to
love"  ― bodhinku, floating colors

"ardiendo" is spanish for "ablaze", or '"burning" so for you to listen to as you read my blog, i cannot think of a better tune than this oldie from the early 80's that goes with this image of mine here... "burnin' for you" by blue oyster cult

"home in the valley, home in the city. home isn't pretty, ain't no home for me. home in the darkness, home on the highway. home isn't my way, home will never be...burn out the day, burn out the night. i can't see no reason to put up a fight. i'm living for giving the devil his due, and i'm burning, i'm burning, i'm burning for you....time is the essence, time is the season. time ain't no reason, got no time to slow. time everlasting, time to play b-sides. time ain't on my side, time i'll never know...burn out the day, burn out the night. i'm not the one to tell you what's wrong or what's right. i've seen suns that were freezing and lives that were through, well i'm burning, i'm burning, i'm burning for you"  blue oyster cult, burnin' for you

btw, if you are not into oldies, or you would simply love to hear a second song i have selected to go along with my blog here, this tune is a much more modern and moody tune to listen to as you read (just click on the song title, it is a link to the lyric video), it ... "coloring outside the lines" by misterwives

"they say time slips away when you're having fun. that's why you said, let's change our life to a dull one...don't wanna blink one day and this will all be over, if only time could stop so we'd never grow older...yet in the same breath i look forward to the day, when our skin has aged i'll love you just the same...our canvas will have endless hues and shades, because of all the vivid colors that we made...say, what we wanna, do, make it all come true, because nothing is impossible with you...open my eyes to see you and i, can't believe this is life. open my eyes, saturated sunrise doesn't seem as bright when we're coloring outside the line....so matter the day, no matter the night, our love will keep burning, keep burning bright. no matter the low, no matter the high, my darling our love will never run dry...we're coloring outside the lines" ― misterwives, coloring outside the lines

"she said simply, 'my favorite color is you'...and that's all it took for my heart to be ablaze with love"  bodhinku, ablaze with love

“do not let intimacy disappear. do not be afraid of deep intimacy. find it, go deep into the colors of each other's being without fear...for the other's pool of being will reflect you” ― osho, book of wisdom

into this new love, your way begins on the other side. become the sky and take an axe to the prison wall, escape, walk out like someone suddenly born into color! do it now!― jalaluddin rumi, the essential rumi

MEANING
"the sun shines down upon us, the lucky ones...you're the radiant autumn leaves, so bright and vibrant, so vivid and ablaze with warming colors...i am your reflection in the river, only just a bit darker, and hazy opaque, and slightly blurred, more cooled by the waters (but still burning for you)...but we're complimentary mirrors to each other, such beautiful simplicity, two incomplete parts of the perfect whole, we are together one the same...one love in the glowing light" ― bodhinku, the lucky ones

ardiendo is a spanish adjective  and translates in english to mean burning, or ablaze (of colors)...this image has colors just ablaze in the glowing light surrounded by the morning mist on the river...so the meaning of this title is direct, but it is also a metaphor of the colors of love that lucky people have ablaze in their hearts...

the fall season here in california is so often our "fire season", and unfortunately many of our forests burn with a different meaning, ablaze with wild fires turning their beautiful colors into gray and black ash and burning to the ground anything in their path...as i type this, we are having more fires in the state of california now burning out of control because of high temperatures and high winds, combined super low humidity (our recipe for disaster all too often here in southern california) and my heart and prayers go out to all of the people being adversely effected by the tragedies befalling them, as they lose so much from these wildfires today...

i truly want to emphasize clearly this is not the meaning of the word ablaze or burning that i want evoke in my image, my use here is a focus on the romantic and poetic side of the word ardiendo (ablaze) instead, the idea of autumn's wonderful colors ablaze, bold, magical, beautiful in the leaves of the trees and in our hearts...

and also i would like to add a little insight here too...the reflection in the river's still water, a beautiful and boldly ablaze reflection of all the colorful trees and morning light flare shining through is a bonus to the image, adding a perfect symmetrical balance to the image, but also creating the effect of an impressionist painting within the reflection...in this image, you can really see the influence that painters like albert bierstadt and claude monet have had on my photography...btw, this image now is my personal favorite of all my images taken of fall foliage, hope you enjoy it! ...along with all of these numerous quotes i have selected to accompany my impression here...

"falling into the mist
through colorful trees
on wings of love

becoming a part
of colors ablaze
in autumn's leaves

holding each color
with floating kisses
on sighs of feathers"
  bodhinku, ablaze

"i have a dream, ablaze each and every night...this dream, is so simple and perfect, and beautiful...it's you"― bodhinku, i have a dream

“true change is within; leave the outside as it is― gautama buddha, sayings of buddha

“a great fire burns within me, but no one stops to warm themselves at it, and passers-by only see a wisp of smoke” ― vincent van gogh

"i am the fire that will burn you. i am the storm that makes you weak…
i am the rain that will wash away the dust from your soul…
i am in your reflection. i am your shadow…
your heart whispers my name in every beat…
every word you say, echoes my name…”  ― c. ara campbell

"when you create a piece of art, you can stop at any time. you can reach a point where it starts to look all right, where the canvas starts to take shape and begins to look like something. you can put down the brush and you can step away from the easel any time you want. you could keep going. you could keep playing with it, keep layering the paint and seeing where it takes you. maybe into a rainbow love and of what your dreams are made, pure joy. "but what if i wreck it", the cautious little voice inside says. "maybe i should stay where it is and not mess it up. i mean it’s all right, right?" art is sort of like life. sometimes we don’t move for fear that what we have is good enough and if we make a false step we’re going to wreck it. sometimes we have a hard time imagining anything other than what we see in front of us. sometimes our experiences have taught us not to hope for anything other than the basic whitewash on canvas. life is always going to make your horizons stretch. with every breath you are expanding. with every day you are being called to pick up the brush and touch up what it is you are wanting to see on your canvas. there’s nothing wrong with it. that’s life. but you aren’t going to wreck anything. this is all your path. the stuck bits, the busy parts. the decisions, the contrast, the change and all the stuff in between. it’s all our road. on the easel of life, you can put the brush down at any time. you can step back and take a long hard look at your canvas. you can sit there and stare at it as long as you need. it’s not going anywhere. and you are always able to pick that palette back up, put the bristles to the canvas and recolor the surface at any time. that’s the beauty of art and life. there really is no end, only blending from one hue to the next, like with the colors in a rainbow. it’s always a work in progress. and life can be a rainbow if you take the chance and let it." ― c. ara campbell

“this is me saying that i would set myself ablaze to bring color to all of the dark places within you”

"i want only five things, five chosen roots...one is an endless love. two is to see the autumn ablaze in color. i cannot exist without colorful leaves flying and falling to the earth. the third is the solemn winter, the white snow i loved, the caress of fire warming in the rough cold. fourth, the summer, plump as a watermelon, green as moss. and fifthly, your colorful eyes, my dear love, i won’t sleep without your eyes, i won’t exist without your gaze, i adjust the spring for you to follow me with your eyes. that, is all i want. next to nothing, close to everything in the love within the color of your eyes” ― pablo nerudai explain a few colorful things

"lovely one,
with a nest of copper entangled
on your head, a nest
the color of dark honey
where my heart burns and rests,
lovely one" ― pablo neruda

“love is a feeling completely bound up with color, like thousands of rainbows superimposed one on top of the other” ― paulo coelho

“beauty is present in all creation, but the danger lies in the fact that we allow ourselves to be influenced by what people think. we deny our own beauty because others can't or won't recognize it. we try to imitate what we see around us. we try to be what other people think of as 'pretty', and little by little, our soul fades. we forget the world is what we imagine it to be. we stop being the sun and become, instead, the pool of water reflecting it" ― paulo coelho, manuscript found in accra

“the whole world may say there is light and there is rainbow in the sky and the sun is rising, but if my eyes are closed what does it mean to me? the rainbows, the colors, the sunrise, the whole thing is non-existential to me. my eyes are closed, i am blind. and if i listen to them too much, and if i start believing in them too much, and if i borrow their words and i also start talking about the rainbow that i have not seen, about colors which i cannot see, about the sunrise which is not my experience, i may be lost in the forest of words" ― osho, a bird on the wing

“he especially liked to look at the trees and their reflections in the river. trees are beautiful in deep autumn: greens, yellows, reds, oranges, every shade in between, their dazzling colours glowing with the sun ― nicholas sparks, the notebook

“i wish i had the talent to paint the way i feel about you, for my words always feel inadequate. i imagine using red for your passion and pale blue for your kindness; forest green to reflect the depth of your empathy and bright yellow for your unflagging optimism. and still i wonder: can even an artist’s palette capture the full range of what you mean to me?” ― nicholas sparks, the longest ride

“there is no envy, jealousy, or hatred between the different colors of the leaves in the autumn. and no fear either. because each one exists to make the others’ love more beautiful...” ― aberjhani

“it’s too bad if a heart lacks fire,
and is deprived of the light
of a heart ablaze.
the day on which you are
without passionate love
is the most wasted day of your life" ― omar khayyam, the ruba'iyat

"a kind of light spread out from her. and everything changed color. and the world opened out. and this day was good to awaken to. and there were no limits to anything. and the people of the world were good and handsome. and i was not afraid any more.” ― john steinbeck, east of eden

“before you came,
things were as they should be:
the sky was the dead-end of sight,
the road was just a road, wine merely wine.

now everything is like my heart,
a color at the edge of blood:
the grey of your absence, the color of poison, of thorns,
the gold when we meet, the season ablaze,
the yellow of autumn, the red of flowers, of flames,
and the black when you cover the earth
with the coal of dead fires.

and the sky, the road, the glass of wine?
the sky is a shirt wet with tears,
the road a vein about to break,
and the glass of wine a mirror in which
the sky, the road, the world keep changing.

don’t leave now that you’re here—
stay. so the world may become like itself again:
so the sky may be the sky,
the road a road,
and the glass of wine not a mirror, just a glass of wine" ― faiz ahmad faiz, 100 poems 1911-1984

“shining with craving, his sapphire gaze penetrated her soul. "i desire you so much". his whisper melted her heart. his soft touch set her ablaze" ― chris lange, blade heart

“you know what autumn looks like...the trees go all red and blazing orange and gold, and wood fires burn at night so everything smells of crisp branches. the world rolls about delightedly in a heap of cider and candy and apples and pumpkins and cold stars rush by through wispy, ragged clouds, past a moon like a bony knee...to feel the mellow, golden sun on your skin, more gentle and cozier and more golden than even the light of your favorite reading nook at the close of the day.” ― catherynne m. valente, the girl who circumnavigated fairyland

“fall colors are funny. they’re so bright and intense and beautiful. it’s like nature is trying to fill you up with color, to saturate you so you can stockpile it before winter turns everything muted and dreary" ― siobhan vivian, same difference

“in october, the sun filled the world with mellow warmth...the maple tree in front of the doorstep burned like a gigantic red torch. the oaks along the roadway glowed yellow and bronze. the fields stretched like a carpet of jewels, emerald and topaz and garnet. everywhere she walked the color shouted and sang around her...in october, any wonderful unexpected thing might be possible” ― elizabeth george speare, the witch of blackbird pond

“cyrano: the leaves...
roxane: what color...perfect venetian red! look at them fall.
cyrano: yes...they know how to die. a little way from the branch to the earth, a little fear of mingling with the common dust....and yet they go down gracefully, in a fall that seems like flying!”― edmond rostand, cyrano de bergerac

“i loved to be alone in the woods, especially in the late fall when everything is crisp and golden, the leaves the color of fire, and it smells like things turning into earth. i loved the silence..." ― lauren oliver, before i fall

“leaf! you are so big!
how can you change your
color, then just fall!
as if there were no
such thing as integrity!”― frank ohara, lunch poems

"heart beats fast, colors and promises...how to be brave, how can i love when i'm afraid to fall? but watching you stand alone, all of my doubt suddenly goes away somehow...one step closer...i have died everyday, waiting for you...darling, don't be afraid, i have loved you for a thousand years...i'll love you for a thousand more" ― chistina perri, a thousand years

"and i see colors in a different way
you make what doesn't matter fade to grey
life is good and that's the way it should be..." ― echosmith, bright

"you brought to me life, you open my eyes. and how did we become greater than we are?...i'm seeing colors vivid and bright, how did, how did you do this?...my feet are up in the sky, heaven's so close, i could kiss it. and maybe it's you, and maybe it's me too. maybe, i wish we could hold our breath until we know what's next. i wish i could open my chest and show you everything" ― skylar stecker, how did we?

"if i had to paint a picture to show the world how true love can really be, i would use the brightest colors to create a vision of harmony. and it would be a reality, because it's only what's inside of my heart, and you would see i've always loved you right from the very start...and the colors of the rainbow turn grey whenever you're so far away. it changes like the seasons. you're the reason it happens that way--what you see are colors of emotion reflecting what i feel deep inside. tell me what is the color of love? what do you see? is it warm? is it tender when you think of me? i see the color of love when i'm thinking of you as a picture perfect painting of love forever true...and though many may try to keep us apart, the colors that i see in you will shine a light to see us through, no matter what the world will do i'll always love you."  ― billy ocean, color of love

ABOUT THE IMPRESSION
"just as a autumn transforms a beautiful tree, fully ablaze in only its best colors, and blooming in full wisdom from all the seasons, so will the words well spoken bring out the best in the one who puts them into practice" ― bodhinku, ablaze in practice

this photographic impression is comprised of 6 separate images taken in portrait view and then stitched together into a single 2.5:1 panoramic composition using adobe photoshop cc...and with each of the six exposures being of a semi-long shutter speed, a stable and sturdy tripod was an absolute necessity in order to keep each image aligned to one another on a plain as well as sharp in focus in the places i wanted sharpness (i use selective focus on most of my images, similar to the way our eyes see things)...for this i used a dolica 70" carbon fiber tripod, because it is sturdy, tall, and perfectly compact for travel....for me, this shot would never have been possible without my friends daniel and april at dolica tripods.

in my photography i always use neutral density filters to create longer exposure effects and to balance the light in my composition in camera...i often use as many as four filters at time, and i always use at least one filter...in the case with this image, i used 3 filters in order to get the effects and balance i was looking for...

as always, i used both neutral density (nd) filters, and graduated neutral density (gnd) filters for each image of this composition...a nd filter was needed to soften the water and slow down time, and to also help oversaturate the colors and enhance the red, yellow, orange and green in the image...plus, two two gnd filters were needed to help balance the composition in-camera overall for the image the way i envisioned it, as well as create a natural vignette...

and, to hold the filters and mount them onto my lens, i selected the the newest progrey three slot g-120z magnetic filter holder, made for the 10-stop progrey antarctic 3.0nd filter (magnetic) along with three other 120mm filters of your choosing...on each of the six images in the final composition, i used the 3.0nd progrey antarctic filter combined with two gnd filters: one on top 0.9gnd progrey genesis filter and one on bottom 0.6gnd progrey genesis filter

thank you to progrey for being one of my most valuable sponsors, none of my images would be possible without their support and their filters which are the best on the market, the only filters i trust to use on every single impression that i capture ...

i wish to openly thank my sponsors who have always supported me through both the good and bad times...for truly this long exposure impression would not be possible without the use of my trusty dolica tripod in combination with the progreyusa filters which i use...

"passion's colorings
butterflies with spirit wings
as love's voice sings" ― bodhinku, color sings (haiku)

"contemplate without thinking. stop the world. slow down everything. shut off the noise. breathe in. breathe out. relax. seize this moment. reconnect. feel and sense what surrounds you. listen to all the colors of light that envelope you. see the melody and harmony that floats about unnoticed. taste the solitude of all this wonderment. smell the beautiful silence within your peaceful serenity. then, reach out and touch your faith. this is my world. awaken." ― bodhinku, my world

above all else as always, i hope this message and image find you well.

bodhi
